Present perfect continuous

Lesson 4

I have been waiting here for 10 minutes
I have been working in London since 2015.
How long have you been waiting here?

When we say that some activity started in the past and continues until now, we use the verbs have and been and we put –ing at the end of a verb. This grammar is called the present perfect continuous.

Examples

Flowers have been growing thorns for millions of years.
For millions of years, sheep have been eating the flowers.
